【CONCEPT】
Anyone who has seen the culture of the Miao people knows that in this minority people’s culture, flower blossoms made of silver are the symbol of wealth. They allow assessment of whether a young woman has good handicraft skills, whether her spirit is serene, and whether she has high standards. From this one can spot her social position. Thus, the flower is not just a flower, silver is not just silver, the person is not just a person, making this an appraisal with another kind of value, abstract and artistic.Flowers wither, people die; yet, silver can preserve value indefinitely. However, what appears to be sparkling silver when exposed to air gradually oxidizes. If it is not industriously rubbed and preserved, it will lose it eye-catching luster, like a human body after death which gradually dissolves into a pile of dry bones. Although the bones are bereft of vitality, they still are pinching a flower blossom, and there is no way to see if the bones have a slight smile or not. They have lost their soul just has the flower becomes dirt. From this kind of perspective, seeking the meaning of the flower’s existence can result in understanding the warning that “all things are inherently empty, so why pinch the flower blossom?” The flower? This sort of inquiry is fascinating and thought provoking.
【INTRODUCTION】
The phrase, “pick up a flower and smile” is from a very well known Buddhist parable, and this story only uses a picture to express a deeply profound background thought. The bone hand is clearly the act of picking up a flower, but where is the hand? Where is the flower? What is life is eternal and can be mastered? When we pass away, we cannot take even the beauty of a flower blossom with us. Even if it is a feather-light flower blossom, it still cannot be grasped after death. When pondering “where is the flower?” isn’t it about people?
